Notes:
  • Vidura warns the Pandavas of the danger they are in; they build a tunnel to escape and on the night of the fire a peasant family coincidentally perished and everyone believed it to be the Pandavas killed. 
  • Bhima fights rakshasa in the forest; Bhima and Hidimbi (a rakshasi) marry and have a child named Ghatotkacha who promises to come to the aid of the Pandavas whenever they call
  • Draupadi is to have five husbands; Arjuna wins her first but through confusion and slight bickering the five brothers end up sharing Draupadi (Wife of Five)
  • It is interesting how much Drupada likes the Pandavas considering they helped Droni defeat him
  • Yudhishthira becomes a great and loved king
  • Exile is the number one punishment in every story it seems; Arjuna barely brakes the Draupadi rule but insists he go into exile for 12 years; he meets Ulupi and they have a child named Iravat
  • It just so happens that Ulupi grants him the power to not die at the hands of water creatures; the alligator happens to be a cursed girl, Arjuna helps the other girls out of their curse
  • Arjuna marries Chitra and they have a child who stays behind to become king of Mandipur; Arjuna leaves after three years
  • Arjuna marries Krishna's sister Subhadra; he stayed with her until the end of his exile then brings her back to his home; they have one child
  • Draupadi has five sons with the five brothers
  • Yudhishthira gambles everything away even though he will lose; I wonder if he has a long term plan in mind
  • Draupadi almost saves the day but Yudhishthira gambles again and the brothers go into exile

Week 2 Story: The Sleepy Koala

Story There once was a sleepy koala who spent most of his time in eucalyptus trees. One day when he was eating some eucalyptus leaves he came across a branch that did not look like the others. He asked " what shall I do with this odd branch? " He thought maybe he should try to eat it, although it didn't look very tasty. He thought another time to throw it down into the river where it could float away and bother a different creature. To his surprise the branch once answered back. It said " if you, sleepy koala, want me out of your sight just bury me under some dirt where the sun shines and I will never bother you in this form again ." The koala was hesitant. It would require a lot of work for him to leave his tree to bury this branch. He was very busy with his 22 hours of sleep and 2 hours of eating leaves.
